Series 2, Douglas Rushkoff Interview, September 2007

Douglas RushkoffThis exclusive new podcast interview is with Douglas Rushkoff, the New-York-based best-selling author, columnist, award-winning documentarian and lecturer on technology, media and popular culture.

Douglas’ books include ‘Cyberia’ and ‘Media Virus’ in 1994, ‘Coercion’ in 2000, ‘Open Source Democracy: How Online Communication is Changing Offline Politics’ and ‘Get Back In The Box: Innovation From The Inside Out’ in 2005, among others.

We talk about Douglas’ early interest in transitional states - such as actor/audience as part the social construction of theatre and life/death in biology - which has been a central theme of his wide-ranging output in various media. We discuss this theme in the context of some of his work on psychedelics, the early days of the Internet, innovation, communication and coercion, open source democracy, and what has become what we now call viral marketing.
